This antimicrobial effectiveness testing demonstrates that Test Product has persistent log10 reductions for antimicrobial effectiveness. This is possible due to residual antimicrobial effects in post-exposure samples from active Test Product, moisturizers, or emollients. The product is typically applied to human forearms to test antimicrobial effectiveness and other locations may be used if necessary.
BioScience Labs applies Test Product to subject’s skin at several locations equal to the number of time-points for the various challenge microorganisms. At those specified time-points inoculum is applied to test and control sites for a duration of time per the study method. At the proper time-points, a cylinder/ cup is placed over the inoculum and control sites, and the area is scrubbed with a sterile fluid that neutralizes the Test Product but doesn’t kill the microorganisms. The reductions in the population of challenge microorganisms attributable to persistent antimicrobial activity is calculated in percent and/or Log10 scale as the difference between the control population and the test population.
